Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for women was established on 10th August 1959, under the University of Calcutta in the holy precint of Dakshineswar amid serene surrounding of green foliages with a mission to spread higher education to the girls of the locality. The College has completed its golden jubilee i.e. Fifty Years during the academic year 2008-2009. Now the College provides the opportunities for higher studies in seventeen (17) honours courses or subjects along with twenty two (22) general subjects for near about 2000 students of the locality and also of the neighbouring districts. The college is situated in the holy precint of Dakshineswar
( Dakshineswar became the workplace for Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the famous 19th century saint of India, also regarded as an incarnation of God on earth by many. For the upcoming years Dakshineswar would witness spectacular sadhana and unparalled asceticism by Ramakrishna.) amid serene surrounding of green foliages. Since it is well connected with train and bus routes, students from wide areas can avail the opportunity of reaching the college smoothly. Its multistoried building complex and sprawling play ground provide ample space for academic and cocurricular pursuits.
